Cornish Maine Wedding Photographer // Michelle & Pierre Engagement Session // Fort Williams

Michelle and Pierre traveled from Austin, TX to finalize some of their wedding details. I was fortunate enough to be able to snag some of their time while they were visiting. We met at Fort Williams at sunrise. I don’t know if you are familiar with Maine in February at 6:00am, but it is cold. That is an understatement. It is beyond cold. On that particular morning it was 6 degrees out. I’m not going to lie, I was a tad concerned that I may lose a toe or finger or something!

Michelle and Pierre had met years ago on a dating app, as I’m finding a lot of my couples do. I’m old and picked up my husband at a bar, but a dating app seems much easier and efficient! While on a trip to Vietnam in 2020, Pierre proposed. They had gone on a private boat tour to sight-see and this is where he popped the question!

I’m used to shooting at sunset at Fort Williams, so I had to work backwards to adjust for the light. This time I started right on the beach. There were a few brave souls out there watching the sunrise, while I had Michelle and Pierre walk up and down the rocky beach line. Then we went up to the garden area. I had been there the night before with another couple so I knew exactly what was there. But this time I shoot in the opposite direction to account for the sunrise. The morning golden sunlight was to die for. I always love the light at Fort Williams and this time was no acceptation.

Then it was off to the fields to do some “action” shoots. Then we finished up at the lighthouse. I forgot how beautiful it was there first thing in the morning. I almost ended the session (Michelle and Pierre were turning into popsicles) after the field, but they requested to go to the lighthouse. I’m so glad that they mentioned it! These are my favorite pictures from the session. Pierre was also in the Coast Guard, so he feels a connection to the ocean. I hope that these are also their favorites as a result!! After a little over an hour of freezing Michelle and Pierre, we called it quits to thaw out in our cars.
