Old Port Maine Engagement Photos | Shane & Lindsey’s Portland Engagement Session
If you’re looking for the perfect location for engagement photos in Portland, Maine, let me save you some scrolling: the Old Port absolutely crushes it every single time. Cobblestone streets, old brick buildings, salty waterfront air, weird little alleyways, rusty doors that somehow look cool as hell in photos… it’s basically a playground for a dark and moody photographer.
And Shane and Lindsey? They fit the vibe perfectly.
These two met while working in clinical research at Boston Children's Hospital, which honestly feels very on-brand for them. Smart, calm, ridiculously easy together. The kind of couple that doesn’t need to force anything because the chemistry is already there.
They got engaged on a little beach in Cape Elizabeth, and with their wedding only one week away, we met up in Portland for their engagement session in the Old Port.
Talk about cutting it close. Absolute chaos energy. I respect it.
Starting the Session on Wharf Street
We kicked things off on Wharf Street, which is one of my favorite places for Old Port engagement photos. Between the uneven cobblestone streets, massive old brick buildings, weathered doorways, and little pockets of light bouncing through the city, it gives every session this cinematic feel without even trying.
Shane and Lindsey immediately settled into things. Laughing, holding hands, making each other smile without me having to awkwardly yell “okay now pretend to laugh.” Photographers everywhere know exactly what I mean.
Despite the streets being packed with tourists and people wandering around Portland, these two stayed completely locked into each other. Honestly, that’s usually the secret sauce for city engagement sessions. Ignore the chaos. Focus on your person. Pretend the guy eating a lobster roll three feet away doesn’t exist.
The Weird Blue Railing That I Weirdly Love
There’s this blue railing near the waterfront in the Old Port that probably nobody else on earth notices or cares about, but for some reason I absolutely love using it in engagement sessions.
Something about the color mixed with the industrial waterfront vibe just works. It gives the photos texture and depth without trying too hard. Very “cool indie movie couple walking through Portland” energy.
Shane and Lindsey completely nailed this part of the session. Casual, connected, comfortable. Zero stiffness. Zero weird prom pose vibes.
Parking Lots: The Unsung Hero of Portland Engagement Photography
Then we headed off to one of my favorite engagement session spots in Portland: parking lots.
Yes. Parking lots.
Listen, hear me out.
Parking lots can create some of the coolest cinematic engagement photos if you know how to use light correctly… all of it adds this gritty urban feel that works ridiculously well for couples who want something different.
Unfortunately, these lots were also completely packed with cars because apparently the rest of Portland also wanted to exist that day.
Luckily, Photoshop and I are in a very committed relationship.
By the time I was done editing, it looked like Shane and Lindsey had the entire city to themselves. We created some dramatic cinematic portraits along with fun walking and sitting shots that felt natural and effortless. These two made my job stupidly easy.
Ending with My Favorite Old Port Shot
We wrapped things up back on Wharf Street just as the street lights started turning on.
This is hands down my favorite moment to photograph in the Old Port.
There’s something about the glow of the lights hitting the cobblestone, the blue hour sky settling in over Portland, and the city slowing down for the night that makes these images hit differently.
I always finish sessions here with one big wide shot of the couple together in the middle of the street. It feels timeless every single time.
And Shane and Lindsey absolutely crushed it.
With their wedding only days away, this engagement session felt like the perfect calm before the storm. Just the two of them wandering around Portland together, laughing through crowded streets, and soaking in the last quiet moments before wedding week chaos kicked in.
Honestly? Exactly how engagement photos should feel.

If you’re planning a wedding or engagement session in Portland and want photos that feel cinematic, emotional, candid, and a little badass, the Old Port is one of the best locations in Maine for engagement photography.
Between the waterfront, cobblestone streets, historic architecture, and endless little hidden spots, it’s basically impossible to run out of inspiration there.

Don’t worry. I’ve got you.
That’s literally my job.
