Cornish Maine Newborn Photographer // What To Expect At Your Newborn Session

When clients first reach out to me they are excited, but also a little nervous. They are unsure how the Newborn Photo Session process will go. Some have had some not so great newborn portrait experiences in the past and others are not sure how they will get their new baby to sleep for the session or how to dress them. Prior to speaking with me, I believe that most clients think that I just show up and take pictures, but I offer so much more than that!

From the very first phone call, I talk to my clients about what colors they like and what home decor they want their new pictures to match. We also talk props and what pieces from my newborn wardrobe they like. We review their schedule and try to determine the best time for me to go to their home for pictures. They are often relieved to find that I take care of all of that stuff for them.

After the baby is born, it’s time to get him or her on the books officially! Then the real fun begins! I double check with mom and dad about colors and props. Then I do mock set ups and photograph them. The pictures above are actual mockups from a previous shoot! This is to make sure that the styling that I choose for my sessions is exactly what we had discussed and unique to the baby that I’m photographing. I want every single one of my photo sessions to be absolutely perfect and tailored to my clients!

A few days before the photoshoot, I send out my Newborn Prep Guide. This tells mom and dad exactly what to do on the morning of their session. I also include my Family Style Guide to help mom, dad and any siblings to coordinate their outfits. I literally don’t want my clients to worry about anything before I get there!

The day of the session, I show up at my client’s home with my travel studio. I unpack and set up a small studio right in your home! I have worked in small kitchens, nurseries and living rooms. I do not require much room at all! Mom feeds baby and we are ready to rock and roll! At this point, I take the baby, so mom and dad can relax just a bit. I wrap the baby and go through all the setups that I had planned. At the end, I grab a few lifestyle pictures of the family and siblings.

A week or two after the shoot, I meet up with my clients again either inperson or via Zoom to show them their portraits for the first time! This is the Reveal and Ordering appointment where we look at sample albums, wall art and folios. I walk mom and dad through the ordering process to make sure that they have all the pictures that they need. Most Newborn Sessions order wall art and an album. I mean, why wouldn’t they? Their little one is only little once, right? And the quality that comes from my lab far surpasses anything that I have ever seen. Plus, if someting comes back wrong from the lab, I handle it and everything that gets delievered to my clients is perfect! I love being able to offer this to my clients! It’s so much fun to watch them view their photos for the very first time!

So if you are looking for a Newborn Session experience where you don’t have to lift a finger then I’m your girl! I do book up quickly so reach out today!!
