Maine Newborn Photographer // Keeping Your Newborn Healthy Against Germs During their Photo Shoot

I was originally going to call this blog COVID precautions with everything that’s happening in current events, but truth be told, with newborns we are talking about more than COVID. Many of my little clients come straight to me from the NICU and are already at higher risk for things like RSV, pneumonia, influenza, etc. Little people, little immune systems, right? Besides, not much has changed for how I prep for a newborn photo shoot. I have always been overly cautious with cleaning and disinfecting my equpiment and props.

As a mother and a former healthcare person, I take the health of newborns very seriously. I treat every sessions as if I would be photographing my own baby. For starters, if I do not feel well, I will reschedule. And I hate to reschedule photo sessions! But the health and safety of your family is much more important. Luckily that has only happened once in the past year and, in an abundance of caution, I even went out for a COVID test prior to shooting my next newborn session.

I only do one newborn photo shoot a day. This gives me enough time to clean anything and everything. All clothing, hats, wraps, etc must be cleaned prior to touching another baby! All props used will be sprayed or wiped down with disinfectant. Even the bean bag that I use is made out of sail cloth. It gets sprayed and wiped down before and after each use. When it was made it was probably made waterproof for different reasons, but it works for cleaning away germs too!

The day of your baby’s photo shoot, I will gladly wear a mask in your house or anytime that I am handling your little one. I also use hand gel prior to touching your baby. I find at times that just out of habit, that I reapply it multiple times a session. I do not want to be responsible for anyone, especially a newborn getting sick!

Any more questions on how I handle newborn sessions or to book, feel free to connect!
