Maine & NH Wedding Photographer // Let’s Get Awkward (and Adorable): How I Help You Feel Like a Natural in Front of the Camera
Let’s be real—being in front of a camera is weird.
Like, "what do I do with my hands?" levels of weird.
And unless you moonlight as a model on the weekends (if so, hello and I bow to your smize), chances are you’re not feeling like a Vogue cover the moment I whip out my camera.
Guess what? You don’t have to.
I got you. Let’s break it down.
“We’re So Awkward…”
Literally every couple says this at the beginning of their session.
Spoiler alert: you are not.
You’re just not used to someone lurking around with a big lens while you try to look normal and in love.
BUT—here’s the trick: I’m also quirky and awkward, and you are 1000% in good company.
You’ll hear me say things like:
"Okay now smush your faces together like two adorable raccoons sharing a garbage snack."
or
"Whisper your favorite pizza topping in their sexiest voice."
We don’t do stiff or robotic over here. We do real. And we laugh a lot.
Posing? Yes.
Standing like cardboard cutouts? Nope.
Here’s how I roll:
I’ll set you up with a pose—don’t worry, I won’t leave you flailing.
Then I’ll give you a little prompt or activity to bring out those genuine reactions.
Think:
“Run at each other like you're in a cheesy romcom.”
“Tell them the worst pickup line you know.”
“Spin her like you’re drunk at your cousin’s wedding.”
(Disclaimer: I fully support drunk spinning.)Bring Props, Not Pressure
Want to pop champagne? Bring it.
Feel like flying a kite or skipping rocks like it’s third grade again? Hell yes.
Bringing an activity helps give you something to do with your hands (besides nervously clenching them), and it makes the whole session feel less like a photoshoot and more like a hangout with cameras.
Also—if you’re dog people, bring the dog. If you’re beer people, crack one open. If you're into picnics, music, or dancing like dorks—bring it on.
It all makes the session more "you."
My Job Is To Help You Feel Like You
I don’t want to create cookie-cutter Pinterest shots.
I want to capture your vibe, your weirdness, your inside jokes, your connection.
So if you're nervous, that’s normal.
If you're awkward, perfect—I thrive in awkward.
If you're worried about how to act… just show up. I’ll handle the rest.
So, you can be awkward. You don’t need to be a model. You don’t need to know how to pose.
You just need to trust me, show up as your weird, wonderful selves, and maybe bring champagne.
We’ll make the magic happen. (But like, … not the sparkly fairy tale crap.)
