Amanda & Sam's Wedding at The Barn on Walnut Hill | Yarmouth, Maine Wedding Photographer
If every wedding day could order its weather from an Etsy Witch ( Guess its a TikTok thing), Amanda and Sam would have left a five-star review.
After what felt like an endless string of cloudy skies, rain forecasts, and weather apps causing unnecessary stress, their wedding day at The Barn on Walnut Hill in Yarmouth, Maine arrived with warm sunshine, blue skies, and not a single cloud in sight.
Basically, Maine showed off.
A High School Love Story That Actually Worked
Amanda and Sam met online when they were in high school.
Now, before you start thinking this sounds like the beginning of a true crime documentary, it actually turned into a pretty great love story.
Their relationship survived long distance through college, skeptical parents (Amanda's mom had questions, understandably), and years of being apart before Sam eventually moved to Boston in 2017.
They've been together ever since, proving that sometimes the internet actually does get it right.
A Christmas Eve Proposal
Sam proposed on Christmas Eve 2024 at Amanda's mom's house.
The two had designed the ring together, so Amanda knew a proposal was somewhere on the horizon. She still wanted to be surprised, though.
Mission accomplished.
She never saw it coming.
Afterward, they celebrated with family at Amanda's aunt's house, making Christmas Eve even more memorable than usual.
Wedding Morning at The Barn on Walnut Hill
When I arrived at The Barn on Walnut Hill, the morning was already off to a great start.
One of the hair and makeup artists was someone who occasionally works in my boudoir studio, so it was fun seeing a familiar face helping the girls get wedding-ready.
The bridesmaids spent the morning laughing, chatting, and soaking up the excitement.
Amanda?
Completely calm.
Cool as a cucumber.
Meanwhile, the guys were busy roaming around the property, making sure everything was perfect and ready for guests to arrive. Every time I turned around, someone was carrying something, adjusting something, or checking on something.
The unofficial groomsmen job description seemed to be "professional wedding wanderers."
Before getting dressed, Sam handed out custom Zippo lighters he had ordered for each of his groomsmen. It was such a thoughtful gift and one of those little moments that made the day feel even more personal.
The First Looks (Grab the Tissues)
Eventually, it was time.
Amanda stepped into her dress while her mom carefully zipped her up and her bridesmaids watched from nearby.
Those moments always hit a little differently. The anticipation starts building and suddenly everyone realizes this wedding is actually happening.
The first look with Sam was incredibly sweet.
The second he turned around and saw Amanda, his face said everything.
There were smiles.
There were tears.
There was probably someone nearby pretending they had something in their eye.
Then came Amanda's first look with her dad.
And if you thought we were done crying, you'd be wrong.
He was completely overwhelmed seeing his daughter all dressed up and ready to walk down the aisle.
A Personal Ceremony at The Barn on Walnut Hill
The ceremony took place under perfect blue skies at The Barn on Walnut Hill in Yarmouth.
Amanda's cousin officiated and absolutely crushed it.
She incorporated personal stories, thoughtful memories, and details from Amanda and Sam's relationship that made the ceremony feel incredibly meaningful and unique to them.
It wasn't just a ceremony.
It felt like their story.
Before long, they signed their marriage certificate, shared their first kiss as husband and wife, and officially kicked off the next chapter of their lives.
Cocktail Hour, Sunshine, and Good Vibes
One of my favorite things about this wedding was how relaxed everyone was.
Guests gathered under the tent for cocktail hour, enjoying the beautiful weather and spending time together.
Nobody was rushing. (Us running ahead of schedule)
Nobody was stressed.
Everyone was exactly where they wanted to be.
With great weather, great company, and a gorgeous venue like The Barn on Walnut Hill, it was hard not to have a good time.
Time to Party
The reception started with Amanda and Sam's first dance, followed by emotional parent dances that had more than a few people reaching for tissues.
Then the dance floor officially opened.
And from that point on, it was game over.
The party was on.
Golden Hour at The Barn on Walnut Hill
We had snuck away throughout the day for portraits, which is one of my favorite ways to approach wedding photography. It allows couples to spend more time enjoying their wedding and less time standing in one place taking photos.
As the sun began setting over The Barn on Walnut Hill, we headed out one last time for golden hour portraits.
The light was absolutely perfect.
Warm sunshine.
Beautiful Maine scenery.
A newly married couple who couldn't stop smiling.
It was the kind of evening photographers dream about.
Amanda and Sam's wedding was filled with laughter, happy tears, incredible weather, and all the people who matter most.
Honestly, it was one of those wedding days that reminds me exactly why I love what I do.
Amanda and Sam, thank you for trusting me to tell your story. Your wedding at The Barn on Walnut Hill was an absolute blast, and I couldn't imagine a better way to spend a sunny summer Saturday in Maine.
