Amy & Gabe's Engagement Session at Kettle Cove in Cape Elizabeth, Maine
I've known Amy forever from my past life working in healthcare. I've photographed her and her daughter before, but this was my first time meeting her fiancé, Gabe. Within about five minutes, I understood why these two work so well together.
We met at Kettle Cove in Cape Elizabeth, Maine, a place that's become part of their story. They've spent countless dates here watching the sunset, so it felt fitting to celebrate their engagement in a place that already holds so many memories.
As we wandered through the field behind the beach, they told me about how they first met as teenagers. Amy knew right away that Gabe was going to be important in her life. Gabe apparently had a different first impression strategy and immediately started calling her "The Girl." Somehow the nickname survived, even after the two lost touch for nearly twenty years. Thanks to Facebook, they eventually found their way back to each other.
From there we headed down to the beach, where the laughter never really stopped. Amy is genuinely one of the funniest people I know, and Gabe keeps right up with her. The two spent the evening joking around, walking hand in hand along the shoreline, and making my job ridiculously easy.
While we explored the beach, they told me about their proposal story or more accurately, proposal stories. Most couples have one proposal. Gabe decided one wasn't nearly enough and started proposing about a month into dating. According to Amy, he's made it clear that marriage isn't going to stop him from proposing either. Honestly, that tracks.
As the sun started dropping lower in the sky, they popped open a bottle of "Do Epic Shit" champagne and toasted to the next chapter. We wandered farther down the beach, climbed out onto the rocks, and watched them carefully navigate the slippery surfaces together. It was one of those little moments that says so much about a relationship. They were constantly looking out for each other, offering a hand, cracking jokes, and making sure neither one ended up unexpectedly swimming.
The evening wrapped up with sparklers, more laughter, and one of those Cape Elizabeth sunsets that reminds you why Kettle Cove is such a favorite spot. There wasn't anything overly complicated about the session. No elaborate plans. No stiff posing. Just two people who genuinely enjoy being together.
Those are always my favorite sessions.
Watching Amy and Gabe together feels effortless. They're comfortable, playful, supportive, and completely themselves around each other. After spending the evening with them at one of their favorite places, I'm even more excited to photograph their wedding day. If it's anything like their engagement session, it's going to be filled with laughter, a few unexpected proposal attempts, and a whole lot of love.
