Maine & NH Wedding Photographer // The Sessions That Were Basically a Date That I Crashed (And Photographed)
Listen, not every engagement session needs to feel like a photo shoot. In fact, some of my favorite ones feel more like I got invited on the world’s cutest date... but, you know, with a couple who just lets me creep in the bushes with my camera.
Whether it’s flying kites like a rom-com montage, sipping champagne on the beach like they’re auditioning for a Nicholas Sparks adaptation (minus the tragic plot twist), or cozying up in a dark corner of a local pub where the lighting is moody AF — these sessions weren’t posed. They were vibed.
Pub Crawls & Cozy Corners
Let’s talk about pub engagement sessions. Yes, actual beer and burgers — not “styled” cocktails with 3 strategically placed eucalyptus sprigs. There’s something wildly charming about a couple sliding into a booth, ordering what they actually drink, and just being themselves. It’s low-key, high-vibe, and exactly the kind of storytelling I live for.
One couple legit played darts. Another made intense eye contact over whiskey. I just happened to be there documenting it all like an unlicensed romance documentarian.
Beach Picnics That Weren’t Cheesy (Shocking, I Know)
Beach sessions can go full Pinterest real quick — but these weren’t that. Think sandy toes, windblown hair, unfiltered laughter, and picnic setups that looked like the couple actually eats there. No, it wasn’t curated within an inch of its life. And it worked.
Kite Flying Is Not Just for Kids (Apparently)
When one of my couples pulled out a kite, I thought, “Oh this is gonna be cute.” What I didn’t expect was competitive wind strategy and pure joy that made me feel like I was watching a Pixar short. The colors popped, the sky was dramatic, and the laughter was real — the kind of genuine stuff you can’t fake, no matter how many posing prompts you memorize.
Mountaintop Sunset + Champagne = I’ll Never Be Over It
You haven’t lived until you’ve watched two people totally in love, toasting the hell out of their engagement as the sun dips below the horizon on a mountaintop. Like, yes — they brought a blanket and champagne. These are the sessions where I let them just be — no posing, no directing. Just vibes, light, and a couple soaking in the beginning of their next chapter.
Plus, the sunset glow does half my job for me. Thanks, nature.
Here’s your permission slip to not treat your engagement session like a formal photoshoot. Plan a date. Do something you love. Go somewhere that feels like “you.” Let me come along for the ride. I’ll be the third wheel with snacks, dad jokes, and a camera.
