Maine & NH Wedding Photographer | Courtney & Kyle’s Engagement Session at Hemlock Bridge, Fryeburg
It had been a couple years since I’d been back to Hemlock Bridge, and honestly? I forgot just how stupid pretty that place is. Like… how dare it look that good without even trying. So when Courtney and Kyle told me that’s where they wanted their engagement session, I was already excited before I even packed my camera bag.
These two go way back…college days. Started as friends (classic), life did its thing, and then Kyle circled back years later like, “hey… remember me?” And now here we are. Honestly, 10/10 move.
The proposal? Very on brand for them. Kyle proposed in Salem, right in front of the House of the Seven Gables, followed by a private tour. I mean… if you’re gonna propose, you might as well commit to the vibe. So yeah, it makes perfect sense their wedding is happening there too, and I already know it’s going to be a whole thing in the best way.
We kicked off their session in the field behind the bridge, with those wide-open views of the White Mountains just casually showing off in the background. Courtney and Kyle just got into it—laughing, walking, being their natural, easygoing selves. No weird stiff posing, no awkward “what do I do with my hands” energy. Just them, hanging out, and me third-wheeling with a camera.
As we started heading back toward the bridge, some guy in a truck decided to absolutely rip down the road and kick up a massive cloud of dust. At first, I was like… cool, love that for us 🙃
But then… the light hit it.
And suddenly I was like—hold up, don’t move.
The sun started filtering through all that dust and it created this hazy, glowy, cinematic look that I could not have planned better if I tried. So yeah, we pivoted real quick and shot right there in the road like a couple of rebels. Totally worth it.
After that little unexpected plot twist, we made our way back to the bridge. I wanted to play around with some lighting inside because old covered bridges have this wild structure that almost looks like a rib cage. It’s got this moody, slightly gritty feel, which is obviously my love language. We leaned into that and got some really cool, dramatic shots that feel completely different from the open field stuff.
We wrapped things up down by the river with some slower, quieter moments—just walking, hanging out, soaking it all in. The kind of photos that feel less like “engagement session” and more like “a really good night together.”
Courtney and Kyle are just fun. No pressure, no overthinking, just two people who genuinely like being around each other—and that always shows up in the photos.
And yeah… I really do have the best couples. I’m already counting down to Salem with these two.
